John Nielsen is Underwriting Counsel for the National Commercial Services office of First American Title Insurance Company in Nashville. John underwrites coverages in title insurance policies issued to buyers and lenders on commercial real estate transactions for properties in Tennessee and throughout the country.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and his Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis in 2011. After admission to the bar that same year, he worked for six years as an attorney in a small real estate litigation firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota, curing title problems and representing title insurers in disputes over title policy coverage.
John joined First American in 2016 as an underwriter for agents in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, working on residential and commercial transactions. After three years at First American, he worked in a similar role for two years at another national title insurer before returning to the company in March of 2022 as underwriting counsel in our National Commercial Services office in Nashville. He is admitted to the bar in Minnesota and Wisconsin and is in the process of obtaining his law license in Tennessee.
Meet Our Presenters
Susan Knight Sampsel is Underwriting Counsel for the National Commercial Services office of First American Title Insurance Company in Cleveland.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. In May of 1981 she graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio and was admitted to the Ohio bar later that year. After working for a small law firm, she was hired by a title agency and has worked in the title insurance industry for over 30 years, including as underwriting counsel for another national title insurer.
Susan joined First American in 2019 as Underwriting Counsel and works solely on commercial transactions throughout the country. She has been the lead underwriter on multi-site portfolio projects and was chosen to participate in the company’s Excellence in Underwriting program in 2023.
