Watch Xander Snyder, First American's Senior Commercial Economist, discuss the commercial real estate outlook for the rest of the year and if a commercial real estate cycle downtown is possible.
Over the last three years, COVID’s impact has affected commercial real estate in varying ways. Traditional retail closings plunged but recovered as stimulus flooded consumers’ savings accounts, the office market was thrown into uncertainty, and multifamily and industrial transactions soared. Post pandemic, certain sectors appeared to return to normalcy. Then came inflation and monetary policy tightening.
Now, multifamily strength is fading, industrial demand is still high, but there is a lot of supply coming to market, and the lingering work from home dynamics continues to plague the office market sector.
Does this indicate another CRE cycle downturn in 2023? And how will the recent bank failures impact these developments?
